Norton-based MWOS Football Club is set to feature in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League this season after acquiring the franchise rights of ZPC Hwange.
The agreement, which followed weeks of discussions, was finalized today and has received approval from the ZIFA Southern Region.
ZPC Hwange decided to sell their franchise due to financial challenges in maintaining two Premiership teams while simultaneously managing ZPC Kariba. Another critical factor was the CAF Club Licensing regulation, which prohibits a single entity from owning multiple clubs competing in the same league.
Efforts by the ZPC workers’ committee to retain top-flight football in Hwange for the relegated Hwange FC were unsuccessful, leading to the franchise being sold to MWOS.
