A 26-year-old Zimbabwean man, Bright Nyanhete, based in Australia, has been accused of assaulting his 36-year-old girlfriend after allegedly spiking her drink. The two had met for the first time in person, having developed a relationship through the woman’s sister, who also lives in Australia.
According to reports, Nyanhete traveled back to Zimbabwe to spend time with the woman. On November 13, they were drinking whisky at her home, during which they became physically affectionate. However, the woman expressed concerns about engaging in sexual activity due to uncertainty about his HIV status. After she stepped away to the bathroom, she returned to find a drink that she suspected had been tampered with.

It is alleged that Nyanhete then took advantage of the situation, overpowering the woman and assaulting her. She later reported experiencing symptoms such as a severe headache and palpitations, which left her unable to resist.
Nyanhete has denied the allegations, claiming that they were fabricated after the woman discovered he was planning to marry someone else later this month. The case is still under investigation.
