Millers Accused Of Looting Over US$163,000 Worth Of Maize Stock From Deputy Minister’s Farm

Two millers, Edwin Mwale (41) and Kudakwashe Murehwa (46), have been brought before a Harare magistrates’ court, facing allegations of stealing 9,735 bags of maize valued at over US$163,000.

The bags were entrusted to them for safekeeping by Agriculture deputy minister Vangelis Haritatos.

The accused, who were custodians of the maize stored in a warehouse, allegedly hatched a plan to steal the grain between May 2023 and July 2023.

The theft came to light during an internal investigation by the deputy minister, leading to the charges.

The suspects have not yet entered a plea and will return to court for a bail ruling.”
