Police Launch Manhunt For Suspects In Failed Vehicle Smuggling Attempt
Police are on the lookout for individuals who attempted to smuggle a stolen vehicle into the country from Botswana through the Ramokgwebana River.
The suspects abandoned the vehicle, along with contraband, near the Madabe area in Mangwe District after it got stuck in the mud during the incident at around 2 am on Saturday.
Despite attempting to use iron roofing sheets to navigate the river, the vehicle became trapped, leading the suspects to seek help from the community.
Although the police recovered the unregistered Honda Fit, the suspects had fled by the time law enforcement arrived.
The vehicle contained smuggled items, including 48 Bella Home Queen bed sheets, 20 fleece blankets, and 10 fleece jackets from Botswana.
Investigations are ongoing, and the police have called on the public to provide any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects.
The incident highlights the ongoing issue of smuggling, particularly at border posts like Beitbridge and Plumtree, resulting in significant financial losses for the government in import revenue annually.”
