President Mnangagwa Calls for By-Elections in Mt Pleasant and Harare East Constituencies

President Mnangagwa has officially declared vacant seats in the Mt Pleasant and Harare East constituencies following the resignations of Ms Fadzai Mahere and Mr Rusty Markham, respectively. By-elections have been scheduled for next month.

According to Statutory Instrument 37A of 2024, President Mnangagwa has announced that the nomination court will convene on March 26 at the Rotten Row Magistrates Court, with the by-elections slated for April 26.

“In accordance with section 129(1)(b) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, the seats of members of Parliament for Harare East and Mt Pleasant have been declared vacant due to the resignations of Markham Rusty and Mahere Fadzayi on February 20, 2024, who were the elected members of Parliament for the respective constituencies,” reads the official notice.

The President further stated that the Speaker of Parliament formally notified him in writing on February 20 regarding the vacancies in the aforementioned constituencies.
