President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed Major General Emmanuel Matatu as the new Commander of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA), promoting him to the rank of Lieutenant General with immediate effect.
The appointment was made in accordance with Section 216(2) and Section 89 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, as well as Sections 11(1)(a) and 11(4) of the Defence Act (Chapter 11:02).
In an official press statement issued by Dr Misheck Rushwaya, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, the government confirmed Matatu’s promotion and leadership role in the ZNA.
Matatu’s appointment comes at a crucial time for Zimbabwe’s defence forces, as the country navigates both regional security concerns and internal military restructuring. His experience and leadership will play a key role in maintaining national security and stability.
More details on Matatu’s military background and his vision for the ZNA are expected in the coming days.
