NACZ Background
National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) was created through an Act of Parliament in 1985 and it Champions the promotion and development of the arts sector by providing support, initiating arts programmes and forging partnerships with key stakeholders in the arts and culture sector. The mandate of the NACZ is to foster, develop and improve the knowledge, understanding and practice of the arts in Zimbabwe by encouraging the teaching and practice of the arts and their presentation, performance, execution, and exhibition to the public.
Project Background
Based on a principle of technological neutrality, the objectives of the UNESCO 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions remain valid regardless of the emergence of new technologies and devices. To address the challenges and opportunities of digital technology, in 2017, the Conference of Parties approved the “Guidelines on the Implementation of the Convention in the Digital Environment”. Subsequently, UNESCO developed an “open roadmap for the implementation of the 2005 Convention in the digital environment” which was then approved by the Conference of Parties in 2019. The Open Roadmap is a flexible framework that offers concrete reference activities to protect the means of creation, production, dissemination, access, and exchange of cultural goods and services in the face of rapid technological changes. UNESCO launched a pilot technical assistance programme to further the implementation of the 2005 Convention in the digital environment. The pilot phase assists three countries (Georgia, Uganda and Zimbabwe) in elaborating and/or implementing context-based measures related to the cultural and creative industries in the digital environment. Within the above-mentioned context and under the authority the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe intends to recruit a communications consultant to develop communications materials for the project.
