Nash Paints, a paint manufacturer based in Harare, has initiated legal proceedings against two employees, accusing them of embezzling stock valued at US$19,591.
The individuals involved, Chipo Brinia Mapfumo (32), who served as a branch supervisor, and Takudzwa Gorejena (37), a branch manager, appeared in court before Magistrate Mr. Isheunesu Matova on theft charges. They were each granted bail set at US$100.
The company, represented by Operations Manager Ms. Caroline Mundunga, claims that the accused manipulated stock records to hide the loss of company assets. Court documents reveal that Mapfumo was responsible for the Gazaland branch in Highfield, while Gorejena managed the Chikwana branch in Chitungwiza. Both employees were reassigned to the Gazaland branch between September 2024 and January 2025, where they were tasked with updating stock records for sales.

Prosecutor Mr. Rufaro Chonzi outlined that the pair allegedly conspired to underreport stock entries in the system, creating discrepancies that went unnoticed until a routine audit by Business Systems Manager Mr. Nelson Tshabalala in January 2025.
After discovering irregularities, the company sent an audit team for further investigation. On January 18, auditors found significant inconsistencies in the stock management system, revealing that US$19,591 worth of stock was unaccounted for during the period of the employees’ oversight.
The accused reportedly could not offer satisfactory explanations for the discrepancies, prompting Nash Paints to involve law enforcement. As of now, none of the missing stock has been recovered, and the investigation continues alongside the court proceedings.
