The expectant and enthusiastic Note2Eton Choir who are looking forward to make Zimbabwe proud at the 2018 World Choir Games are still in the country.
The 42 people delegation was supposed to have arrived in South Africa today only to be disappointed by a sponsor who failed to own up to their promise.
The team is circulating the letter below hoping for a miracle.
I am writing this distress call for help with a heavy but hopeful heart. I belong to a choir called Note2etoN (pronounced Note To Note) and we recently qualified to represent Zimbabwe at the 2018 World Choir Games which commence in Pretoria, South Africa tomorrow. My choir is supposed to leave for South Africa this evening but the arrangements that we had made for sponsorship seem to have fallen through as no payments have been made as yet. From our own fund-raising efforts, we were able to pay the registration and participation fees to INTERKULTUR, the German company that hosts the event and now we are short of just over EURO 7,000.00 or the USD equivalent which is meant to cover our accommodation and part of our food as well as transport costs amounting to USD$4, 500.00.
We have a 42 people delegation and are supposed to be at the games from the 2nd to the 8th of July. If anything can be salvaged of our situation, we must be in Pretoria by 11am on Wednesday for the sound check for our Championship performance. This year is Zimbabwe’s first time to qualify for the World Choir Games. If we fail to go we will forego all funds we had paid and lose an opportunity to showcase the Zimbabwean culture and music on an international stage. With all the challenges which have undergone as a nation we need to change our narrative of Zimbabwe and supporting Note2etoN to go to the World Choir Games can help us achieve this.
NO AMOUNT IS TOO SMALL. The choir needs to travel today.
