The small mining village of Shurugwi was rocked by a wave of robberies, and the locals had to live in constant fear as an infamous suspect with machetes took over the town.
Many were terrified of Tawanda Roy Ndlovu, the suspected mastermind behind these crimes, as he preyed on victims and stole their electronics, cash, groceries, clothes, and smartphones.
Ndlovu showed up before Shurugwi Magistrate Sithabile Zungula, ready to face the consequences of his deeds, facing an astounding 55 charges of robbery.
The worn-out locals, desperate for a break from the spate of crimes, looked on this court case to be the beginning of the end for their suffering.

Ndlovu, who was from Zhombe’s village 1 under Chief Ntabeni, appeared in court by himself while his three accomplices were still at large. Ndlovu chose to enter a guilty plea despite the seriousness of the allegations against him, possibly realizing the overwhelming body of evidence against him.
Fear was sown by the gang’s evil actions in a number of areas, including Bonsor, Nash 1, Dombojena, Surprise, and every suburb around Shurugwi, starting from Gakaka and spreading down the Zvishavane road. They didn’t just target electronics and jewelry; they also broke into nearby tuck shops and stole groceries, clothing, and cash.
But when some of the pilfered goods were found via assiduous law enforcement work, a glimmer of optimism appeared through the gloom. When the scales of justice were being applied to Ndlovu, the troubled village of Shurugwi dared to envision a return to peace on its streets.
