Pressure Mounts on President Mnangagwa as Komichi Seeks Job Sikhala’s Release

MDC-T Chairperson Morgan Komichi has called upon President Emmerson Mnangagwa to release Job Sikhala, an activist from the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), who has been held at Chikurubi Maximum Prison for several months.

Komichi’s appeal came after his visit to Sikhala at Chikurubi. He emphasized that President Mnangagwa should show compassion and seriously consider granting Sikhala his freedom.

Highlighting Zimbabwe as a nation that upholds multi-party democracy and acknowledges the existence of opposition parties, Komichi emphasized that opposition members should not be treated as if they were murderers.

“We appeal to His Excellency, President Mnangagwa, to demonstrate compassion and enable Sikhala to be granted bail, allowing him to await trial from the comfort of his own home,” stated Komichi.

Sikhala, who was arrested last year along with 15 other members of the CCC, has already been found guilty of obstruction of justice. He is currently being held in pretrial detention on charges of inciting violence and disorderly conduct.

The State dropped all charges against Maureen Kademaunga, the reasons behind this sudden decision remained shrouded in mystery, and speculation ran rampant.
