The renowned musician and producer Sello “Chicco” Twala’s sons, Longwe and Sello Twala, were taken into custody over the weekend on suspicion of stealing, as their father revealed on Monday.

They allegedly stole thousands of rand’s worth of equipment from their father’s studios while high on narcotics. At the Douglasdale police station, a case was opened.

In a statement, Chicco said, “Yes, I can confirm that my son Longwe and his brother Sello Twala colluded and stole my equipment in the studio when I was in the USA.”

He said that Longwe, whom he had previously expelled from his house due to his drug abuse, had scaled the tall walls, broken into his studio, and taken his equipment.

He claimed that after Longwe and his younger brother had been robbing him for a while, he had had enough.

Longwe was taken into custody in January 2020 on suspicion of stealing a cellphone. Social media users shared a supposedly authentic footage of Chicco escorting Longwe to the Diepkloof police station in Soweto.

“A well-known South African musician and producer opened a case of theft against his two sons after they allegedly stole several items from his house,” said Lt-Col Mavela Masondo, a spokesman for the Gauteng police, on Tuesday morning.

The suspects, who are 34 and 39 years old, are scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday to answer to a theft allegation.
