Police have confirmed the arrest of seven individuals involved in a daring armed robbery that took place early Monday morning, January 20, 2025, in Southerton, Harare. The suspects reportedly stole a significant haul, including US$12,000 in cash, a Nissan NP300 vehicle, a CCTV Digital Recorder, an HP laptop, and other valuable items from a local company.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police, through their spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, identified the arrested suspects as Tapiwanashe Bakasa (30), Rodgers Magreen (28), Tinashe Thompson (30), Tatenda Mashayamombe (29), Peter Mahwite (49), Anymore Gatsi (38), and Wilson Masvosve (35).
The stolen vehicle, a Nissan NP300, was abandoned in Harare’s Central Business District at the intersection of Robert Mugabe and Julius Nyerere. Police detectives from the CID Homicide unit followed a lead, which traced the vehicle to a property along Mutatarimbo Road in Mufakose. There, they located the safe containing various company documents and the CCTV recorder, which led to the first arrest of Tapiwanashe Bakasa.

Bakasa’s arrest triggered a chain of events as he implicated Rodgers Magreen, who was subsequently apprehended in Stoneridge, Harare. During the search, authorities found US$1,565 in cash and an HP laptop that had been stolen in the robbery. Further investigations led to the arrest of Tinashe Thompson, who was taken into custody at Chibwe Shopping Centre in Stoneridge.
Detectives recovered additional items from Thompson, including a Unique Pistol with an empty magazine, pepper spray, an okapi knife, and US$800 in cash. Authorities also uncovered a motorcycle, which they allege Thompson purchased for US$1,200 using the stolen funds.
The remaining suspects—Tatenda Mashayamombe, Peter Mahwite, Anymore Gatsi, and Wilson Masvosve—were arrested in Mbare on the same day as part of the ongoing investigation.
The police continue to investigate the case, as they work to gather further details on the robbery and the suspects’ involvement in other criminal activities.
