Shauwn Mkhize’s La Lucia Mansion Raided Again by SARS Amid Ongoing Tax Disputes

South African authorities, including the South African Revenue Service (SARS), raided the home of prominent businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize (formerly Mpisane) in a continuation of ongoing conflicts between her and the tax agency. The raid is part of a lengthy history of legal and financial disputes between Mkhize and SARS, dating back over two decades. Mkhize, a controversial construction magnate, has frequently faced accusations of tax evasion and asset concealment.

The recent operation involved authorities not only targeting her luxurious La Lucia mansion but also her business properties, such as the Royal AM’s clubhouse, where critical documents were seized. The raid resulted in delays to a PSL match between Royal AM and Golden Arrows after the club’s facilities were affected. Golden Arrows went on to win the match 3-2.

Mkhize’s businesses, particularly her construction company Zikhulise, have been under scrutiny for unpaid taxes amounting to millions of rands. SARS has reportedly attached several high-value assets belonging to Mkhize, including luxury cars and other prized items, as part of efforts to recover a debt estimated at over R37 million. Mkhize’s son, Andile Mpisane, who is also the chairman of Royal AM FC, was reportedly present during the operation.

This raid follows an ongoing series of disputes between Mkhize and SARS, including a 2020 order to liquidate her company for a tax debt of R122 million. Despite these ongoing issues, Mkhize’s public persona, bolstered by her reality TV show Kwa Mam’ Mkhize, presents a stark contrast to her financial troubles. The show helped transform her image from a controversial businesswoman into a more relatable socialite and celebrity.

Authorities have expressed their commitment to upholding tax laws and have made it clear that they will pursue individuals or businesses that fail to comply. SARS Commissioner Edward Kieswetter emphasized that no one, regardless of their status, is above the law, highlighting that all South Africans must fulfill their legal tax obligations.

The raid is just the latest chapter in the tumultuous history of Mkhize’s business dealings and personal life, with ongoing battles over unpaid taxes and asset management continuing to make headlines.
