Top 10 Highest-Paid Coaches in the PSL for 2024

South Africans have a deep passion for sports, from rugby and soccer to netball and hockey. If it’s airing on TV, you can be sure it’s getting attention. Among the most popular sports leagues is the Betway Premiership, which draws a massive audience of over 19 million viewers.

Given this large fan base, it’s no surprise that the Premier Soccer League (PSL) has some of the finest coaching talent, with high salaries to match. The league’s top teams, supported by loyal fans, are willing to pay big to secure the best coaches.

A major change recently saw Nasreddine Nabi, formerly with AS FAR Rabat, join Kaizer Chiefs, becoming the highest-paid coach in the PSL, surpassing Mamelodi Sundowns’ Rulani Mokwena.

Here’s a rundown of the top 10 highest-paid PSL coaches for 2024:

  1. Nasreddine Nabi (Kaizer Chiefs) – R783,000 per month
    The Tunisian manager, former player, and Kaizer Chiefs head coach is now the highest-paid coach in the PSL.
  2. Manqoba Mngqithi (Mamelodi Sundowns) – Over R700,000 per month
    Serving as the senior coach of Mamelodi Sundowns, Mngqithi plays a pivotal role in the team’s success.
  3. Rhulani Mokwena (Wydad AC) – Over R700,000 per month
    Now the manager of Wydad AC, Mokwena previously led Mamelodi Sundowns.
  4. Steve Komphela (Mamelodi Sundowns) – Over R700,000 per month
    Komphela, a former player and coach, is now part of Sundowns’ senior technical team.
  5. José Riveiro (Orlando Pirates) – Around R700,000 per month
    The Spanish coach leads Orlando Pirates after moving from his previous managerial role.
  6. Eric Tinkler (Cape Town City) – Around R700,000 per month
    Former player and now coach of Cape Town City, Tinkler continues to make an impact on the field.
  7. John Maduka (Royal AM) – Over R600,000 per month
    Maduka, a retired footballer, is currently the head coach of Royal AM.
  8. Brandon Truter (Sekhukhune United) – Over R600,000 per month
    Truter, who previously coached Moroka Swallows, is now at Sekhukhune United.
  9. Steve Barker (Stellenbosch FC) – R400,000 per month
    Former player Barker is now managing Stellenbosch FC.
  10. Kaitano Tembo (Formerly Sekhukhune United) – R500,000 per month
    The Zimbabwean former defender and coach of SuperSport United, Tembo is no longer coaching but was previously with Sekhukhune United.
