South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs will face off against Tanzania’s Young Africans in the Toyota Cup Pre-Season Tournament at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein on Sunday, July 28, 2024 in a highly anticipated match
The match marks a new era for Kaizer Chiefs, who have appointed Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi after a disappointing 2023-24 campaign that saw them finish in 10th place in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) which happens to be their lowest ever finish. The team is eager to return to trophy-winning form, having not won any major silverware since claiming the league title in 2014-15.
On the other hand, Young Africans are the three time reigning Tanzanian Premier League champions, having won a record-extending 30th title in 2023-24 season. They have dominated their domestic scene and made a significant impact in continental football, reaching the quarterfinals of the CAF Champions League last season and finishing as runners up in the CAF Confederation Cup in 2022-23.
In a recent friendly match against German Bundesliga club Augsburg, Young Africans coach Miguel Gamondi expressed pride in his team’s performance, despite losing 2-1. “We showed that the gap between European and African football is not as big as before,” he said.

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi, who previously coached Young Africans, explained why he switched to the Amakhosi. “What encouraged me to sign with Kaizer Chiefs was the communication that took place last season after my career with Young Africans, and we did not reach an agreement,” he said.
The match promises to be an exciting encounter between two teams with different motivations. Kaizer Chiefs will be looking to make a statement of intent under their new coach, while Young Africans will be seeking to continue their dominance in African football. With both teams boasting talented players and experienced coaches, fans can expect a thrilling match at the Toyota Stadium on Sunday.”
