Khama Billiat as our standout player of the season, though there is no certainty he will claim the Soccer Star of the Year title when the award is announced tonight in Harare.
Billiat’s impact on the Premier Soccer League (PSL) this season has been extraordinary. He brought immense value to the league, elevating its profile beyond Zimbabwe’s borders and becoming a key attraction for fans.
In a league often lacking star power, he was the player who drew crowds to stadiums some to watch his mesmerizing skills on the pitch, others simply for the chance to grab a selfie.
It was not just his reputation that made him shine; Billiat delivered where it mattered most. He created unforgettable moments throughout the season and scored 13 goals, finishing as the second-highest scorer behind Golden Boot winner Lynoth Chikuhwa, who netted 17.
Although we back Billiat, the responsibility of choosing the Soccer Star of the Year rests with a panel of journalists, PSL coaches, and team captains. Their selection has already been made, and the winner will be unveiled tonight.

Other strong contenders include Walter Musona, who was instrumental in guiding Simba Bhora to their first league title, and his teammate Tymon Machope. If Musona takes the award, it will mark his second time winning this prestigious accolade.
Musona’s brother, Knowledge Musona, widely regarded as one of Zimbabwe’s most talented footballers, never won the award due to playing professionally outside the country.
Another frontrunner is Lynoth Chikuhwa, whose remarkable transformation this season saw him rise from scoring just three goals last year to an impressive 17 this campaign. Many fans believe his performance merits recognition, particularly given that it has been 22 years since a Highlanders player last won the award. Some still recall the controversy surrounding Honour Gombami’s narrow loss to Clemence Matawu in 2006.
This year’s awards have not been without debate. Simba Bhora’s dominance on the final calendar, with five players selected, has raised eyebrows as no club has ever contributed so many nominees in one year. At the same time, ZPC Kariba, which boasted the league’s best defensive record Pconceding just 18 goals all season—failed to have a single defender included, sparking criticism.
As the soccer fraternity eagerly awaits the announcement, the debate over who truly deserves the title continues. Whether it’s Billiat, Musona, Chikuhwa, or another standout player, tonight’s ceremony will cap off an exciting and closely contested season.
