Warriors’ Last-Minute Goal Disallowed in Heartbreaking 2-1 Loss to Cameroon

The Zimbabwe national football team, known as the Warriors, were left frustrated after a controversial offside call by Burundian referee Pacifique Ndabihawenimana denied them a last-minute equalizer against Cameroon.

The Warriors had fought valiantly, with Terrence Dzvukamanja scoring a superb goal in the 73rd minute to reduce the deficit after two first-half goals by Cameroon. However, Dzvukamanja’s dramatic added-time equalizer was disallowed due to an offside decision that TV replays failed to confirm. This left Zimbabwe empty-handed despite their determined second-half performance.

Coach Michael Nees acknowledged that the Warriors were slow to start, which allowed Cameroon to capitalize early. However, after a much-improved second-half display, Nees believed his side deserved a draw. Despite the result, the Warriors, along with Cameroon, had already secured their place in next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Cameroon’s victory at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium extended their unbeaten streak at the venue, which has lasted 52 years. Zimbabwe’s efforts were hindered by fatigue and communication issues in the first half, but they showed resilience after the break. Despite the disallowed goal, Nees remains confident that Cameroon is vulnerable and believes his team could have snatched a draw with a few more minutes.

The Warriors finished second in Group J with 9 points, while Cameroon topped the group with 14 points, securing both teams’ spots in the upcoming AFCON.
