Zimbabwe will be joining the global community in commemorating World Tourism Day on September 27, 2024. The announcement was made by the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Barbara Rwodzi, who highlighted the country’s significant strides in the tourism sector.
As the world continues to recover from the pandemic, Zimbabwe’s tourism industry has experienced a remarkable resurgence. International arrivals have increased by 27% in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period last year. This growth has translated into a 24% increase in tourism receipts, reflecting the sector’s growing economic importance.
The country’s investment in tourism infrastructure, coupled with its rich cultural heritage and natural beauty, has positioned Zimbabwe as a prime destination for visitors. The government’s ambitious goal of achieving a USD5 billion tourism economy by 2025 is well within reach.
To mark Tourism Month, Zimbabwe has organized a series of events leading up to World Tourism Day. The Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo, a major industry event, will take place in Bulawayo from September 11 to 13. Other activities include a MICE Master Class, a Tourism Investment Forum, a Tourism Scholastic, and a Gastronomy Hub.
The month-long celebration will culminate in the main World Tourism Day celebrations on September 27 at Gandavaroyi Gorge, a hidden gem in the Midlands province. The theme for this year’s World Tourism Day is “Tourism and Peace,” emphasizing the industry’s role in fostering understanding and cooperation among nations.
Minister Rwodzi extended an invitation to all to participate in the planned events, emphasizing the importance of tourism in promoting economic development and job creation.
