A clearing agent at Beitbridge Border Post, Shepherd Emmanuel Nyamayaro, has appeared in court for allegedly facilitating the importation of a vehicle with a counterfeit rebate letter.
Nyamayaro is accused of assisting Noel Kororo in creating a fake Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) rebate letter that exempted him from paying US$5,280 in duty for a BMW 5 Series imported from Japan.
He was granted bail and will return to court on November 9. Kororo is currently in custody.
Prosecutor Ms. Mercy Masamvi detailed that in September 2022, Kororo purchased the BMW 5 Series and applied for a rebate for the vehicle. Before the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development could approve this application, Kororo sought Nyamayaro’s help to generate a fraudulent Zimra rebate letter.

Nyamayaro presented a fake rebate letter dated November 3, 2022, claiming that Kororo was exempt from paying the US$5,280 duty at Nyamapanda Border Post.
Based on this misrepresentation, Zimra officer Allen Dudzayi Zengwa processed and cleared the BMW into the country.
After Nyamayaro submitted the counterfeit rebate clearance letter, the application for the civil servant motor vehicle rebate scheme was later approved on November 7, 2022.
As a result of this fraudulent activity, Zimra incurred a loss of US$5,284 due to unpaid import duty.
