Afro Gospel Star King David Shares Full Track List for New Album

Former Jiti frontman Baba Harare, born Braveman Chizvino, has officially changed his stage name to King David following his transition from secular to gospel music.

This change comes just months after he made headlines by announcing his departure from the Jiti genre, a style that brought him considerable fame, to pursue a spiritual path in gospel music.

In July, Baba Harare shocked fans when he cut off his trademark dreadlocks, opting for a shorter hairstyle, and declared his intention to leave secular music behind. His decision to embrace gospel was further underscored by a public appearance at church with his new wife, showcasing his commitment to his newfound faith.

Despite his positive transformation, the transition has not been without controversy. Friends and former bandmates expressed their discontent, suggesting that his new wife influenced his departure from his previous lifestyle and musical career.

To solidify his dedication to his new path, Baba Harare released a gospel album titled “Repentance.” He is set to follow up with another project, “My Testimony,” scheduled for release on October 5.

While the specific reasons behind his name change remain unclear, it has been suggested that his wife may have deemed the name Baba Harare too tied to his past life. The rebranding to King David symbolizes his renewed commitment to his faith and mission in gospel music.

Baba Harare announced his new identity through social media, where he is also set to feature in the song “Ngoma” by Ashy Anointed, using the name King David in promotional materials.

As he embarks on this new chapter, fans and followers will be watching closely to see how King David continues to evolve as an artist and a person within the gospel music scene.
