Hang Meets Mbira Concert by Tendex

On December 18, Tendex hosted the lively Hang Meets Mbira concert at ZGS, 51 Lawson Avenue, Milton Park, Harare. Featuring performances by Zimbabwe’s Nicholar Mutuwa, Sweden’s Ann Sellberg, and South Africa’s Anton Simpson, the event celebrated cultural diversity.

Tendex delighted fans with tracks like Deliver Me, Kukaiwa, Nyarara Mwana, and Vanotambarara. Collaborative renditions of Emthonjeni, Povombovo, and Hondo brought an eclectic feel, while mbira-infused Christmas songs added a uniquely Zimbabwean festive touch. With cocktails, finger foods, and a safe environment for children, the event offered a relaxed and inclusive celebration for families.

Gospel icon Tatenda Mahachi spent December spreading love through free performances at the Harare Children’s Home. On December 14, he joined Apostle Lovejoy and Judith Tirivepi for a Thanksgiving lunch with the Hatcliffe community at LEAD International Church.

Not all festivities went as planned. The Vigilance family, who traditionally celebrate New Year’s Eve with Winky D, faced disappointment when their usual venue was taken over for a gospel show.

Farai Marasha and Panganai Kangai Tangai

At the same time, Bishop Farai and Chipo Katsande hosted an all-night prayer session at Christ Connect Family Church in Maranatha Park. Bishop Farai encouraged congregants to embrace hard work and actively contribute to Zimbabwe’s progress. Musical highlights included Marceline Janyure, who performed Zvandapihwa Nashe on the mbira, and the CCFC Choir, led by Farai Marasha and Panganai Kangai Tangai, whose energetic worship kept the congregation in high spirits until dawn.

The festive season concluded on a high note on January 1, 2025, with Janet Manyowa’s annual Anot concert at the HICC. A full house enjoyed her uplifting performance, which offered a hopeful start to the new year.
