Floyd Mayweather Jr Zimbabwe Tour
Floyd Mayweather Jr., the former five-weight world boxing champion, arrived in Zimbabwe early on Thursday, July 13, 2023, in his private plane with a small entourage that did not include security detail for his “Motherland Tour”.
He was received by prominent gold dealer and politician Scott Sakupwanya, who escorted him to meet a large audience in Mabvuku, a tiny urban township in Harare where Scott is running for a parliamentary seat.
Speaking to the press and the spectators, Mayweather told them that he and Scott were looking into constructing hospitals and schools. His declaration was met with a thunderous round of cheers. Additionally, he exhorted the populace to support Emmerson Mnangagwa for president in the upcoming election.
He watched exhibition matches by local male and female boxers before his exercise drill exhibition, a few picture sessions, and autograph signing.
The crowd was entertained by some of Zim’s finest dancehall stars Enzo Ishall, Sniper Storm and Pumacol with Djs Fantan, Levels and Ribe on the decks.
On the same day he was treated to a dinner with local business people where spoke about his life experiences and boxing career.
He met with President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the conclusion of his two-day stay, went on a safari, and then departed for South Africa.
