Africa’s Queen of comedy, Anne Kansiime has told local comedians to portray social issues if they are to make it in the industry.
Kansiime was speaking to the media Friday morning before her show at the Harare International Conference Centre dubbed Let’s Laugh Again Harare this Saturday.
The Ugandan comedian Kansiime who was flanked by artistes with whom she will share the stage at the event said her rise to popularity was a result of her strength in portraying social issues that affect millions of people in a satirical way.
“As a comedian to appeal and be able to attract big crowds I chose to do skits of topical social issues of day to day lives,” Kansiime said.
“It is also important to work as a team, but if you are not willing to share your money with others you will not grow because there are people like managers who make work easier for you. I can’t be seen fighting with promoters, but my manager does that.”
She said comedians must also embrace the use of social media and learn to market their productions through better channels of distribution like online platforms.
Meanwhile, Kansiime promised a rib cracking night urging fans to come in their numbers for the show.
“I have truly been loved here in Zimbabwe and I am happy to be coming back and I will make you laugh. I am really happy this time we have a female on the line-up,” Kansiime said.
Baba Tencen also shared the same sentiments with Kansiime saying; “I am so humbled, to be performing here for the first time sharing the stage with award winning sister from Uganda. Come to HICC and I teach way how to eat bread.”
The hilarious comedians will share the stage with local comedian, Q Dube, versatile beat boxer Probeatz, Samantha Kureya aka Gonyeti of Bus Stop TV fame, musician Mudiwa “Hood” Mtandwa and BaShupi.
