Musician Jah Prayzah could fast be becoming a continental phenomenon after he was nominated for yet another African Award this week.
The lanky artiste who recently bagged Zimbabwe’s first ever Mtv Award was this week nominated for Best South African Male Artiste at the forthcoming Afrima awards.
Manager Keen Mushapaidze said the camp was excited about the nomintaion.
“Yes indeed, we are so excited about it and again it goes on to show that the international audience is now following what we do as Zimbabweans,” said Mushapaidze.
He said the fact that the track Hello had been nominated meant that the artiste’s music was now all over the place.
“Having Hello being the nominated song goes to show that it is now more about JP music as opposed to people factoring out just one song. So yes we are happy for the nomination and still pray we bag the award,” said Mushapaidze.
Jah Prayzah has recently found continental fame after conquering on home shores where he broke every record there was setting new ones on the way.
His latest album Mdhara Vachauya which carries a collaboration with Tanzanian Diamond Platnumz appears to have done the trick for him to break onto the continent.
By any measure the artiste has done immensely well to put the country’s artistes on the spotlight and it now appears they now have only them to blame if they do not make it.
That Jah Prayzah is a year shy of 30 makes him an ideal tourch bearer for Zimbabwean art considering he still has a lot more years ahead in his career.
On the other hand, long held beliefs by Zimbabwean audiences that only live music can sell face serious tests as Jah Prayzah has gone to get the right attention after recording digital.
