Masvingo provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, confirmed the incident and urged people to resolve issues amicably without resorting to violence. The tragic event occurred on January 17 at Velkom market in Mwenezi when the deceased sought spiritual help from Maurukuto, a self-styled spiritualist.

Maurukuto suggested going to his shrine for assistance, claiming the market place was inconvenient for such activities. An argument erupted when the deceased insisted on receiving help at the market, leading to a fight. The juvenile joined in, stabbing the deceased in the inner thigh with a knife. Both accused fled the scene.

Maurukuto’s nephew, Sifelani Chiridza, took his uncle to Bubi Clinic for treatment and later to Neshuro Hospital. Upon reaching the Village head’s homestead with the intention to report the incident before going to the hospital, Manduku passed away. The case was reported to the police on January 19, leading to the arrest of the two suspects. The police recovered the knife used in the fatal stabbing.
