JUST-IN: Harare Confirms Cholera Cases In Mbare, Hopley

Over 2,000 individuals have received cholera vaccinations in Ward 2 of the Nyaminyami (Kariba) Rural District Council following a cholera outbreak at the nearby Gatche Gatche fishing camp earlier this month.

The outbreak has resulted in one fatality, and as of yesterday, the Ministry of Health and Child Care reported 97 suspected cholera cases, including five primary schoolchildren among the suspected cases.

Kariba District Medical Officer, Godfrey Muza, shared with NewsDay on Sunday that more than 2,600 people have been vaccinated in total.

In light of the cholera situation, the organisers of the Nyaminyami Festival, set for this Friday, have decided to cancel the event. Muza stated, “After consulting with provincial health authorities, it was decided that all activities should be suspended until the situation improves. The health and safety of our community must come first.”
