In form sungura ace Alick Macheso is set to perform at an SABC event dubbed Phalaphala FM Royal Heritage Festival scheduled for Royal Gardens Nandoni Dam Saturday.
The musical festival, scheduled for Limpopo, will see the resurgent sungura king sharing the stage with a host of South African singers among them gospel sensation Sfiso Ncwane, DJ Zinhle, Heavy K, DJ Ganyani and many others.
It seems the Gungwa hit maker strummed the right chord on his latest release Tsoka DzeRwendo if the recent successful international and regional tours are anything to go by.
The participation of the fire brand Orchestra Mberikwazvo at the Limpopo music extravaganza will bring the count to four number of times the sungura outfit has been in Mzansi this year.
Speaking on his engagement with the SABC event, Macheso said their involvement is a lifetime achievement.
“It is our very first time to perform at an event of such magnitude and it means our fan base is widening and our brand is growing,” said Macheso through his international shows handler Victor Sithole.
He added that such recognition in a foreign nation meant a lot to the sungura giant who also is the Red Cross Humanitarian Ambassador.
“We feel so much honoured as a band and above all as a nation through Mberikwazvo. Chinhu chinofadza chose kusarudzwa mune zvakanaka pamitambo yakaita seiyi tinoti ndezvaShe (It’s very encouraging to be chosen to perform at an event like this so we praise God.) It is encouraging as it is a reflection of the good and hard work we put daily starting to yield,” he said.
The musical event will see the talented bass guitarist and lyricist performing for the first in Limpopo Province despite the fact that he commands a decent following in the Venda town.
“We feel the calling was long overdue to perform here as usually we perform in either Johannesburg or Cape Town and we are promising fireworks as the band is at its peak fans should expect to see the full band which include the returnees Jonasi Kasamba, Obert Gomba and Noel Nyazanda so fans should expect nothing short of the best of Cheso Power,” added Sithole
In a bid to satisfy his fans Mzansi fans Extrabasso as Macheso is also known reached out to his legion of fans through social media and asked them to send their requests for the night.
“We are also bringing CDs, caps and t-shirts of the album Tsoka dzerwendo to our dear Venda fans who have been patient all this while for our maiden performance,” he said.
A quick check by Showbiz saw the sungura ace’s Facebook page abuzz with his South African followers scrambling to request their favourite tracks.
Sithole also said fans should expect the musician to belt songs from the upcoming album as assurance that Extrabasso will from 2017 release yearly to break his usual norm of starving his die hard followers.
