Manchester United has dismissed manager Erik ten Hag following a disappointing start to the season. Ruud van Nistelrooy will take over as interim head coach while the club searches for a permanent replacement.
The decision to part ways with Ten Hag, who received a contract extension just this summer, was described by club officials as “difficult and finely balanced.” However, the board unanimously agreed to the decision after a controversial 2-1 loss to West Ham on Sunday.
Despite Ten Hag’s previous assurances about the team’s direction, the club’s leadership felt that on-field performance had not met expectations. With only four wins in 14 matches this season, the management indicated that the current position in the league was unacceptable.
Van Nistelrooy is expected to serve as a short-term solution until a new manager is appointed. In a statement, the club expressed gratitude to Ten Hag for his contributions and wished him well for the future.

Ten Hag leaves Manchester United sitting 14th in the Premier League, ending his two-and-a-half-year tenure amid significant financial investment in the squad, totaling around £200 million in the summer transfer window. Despite this, the team’s struggles have led to his departure.
Former player Gary Neville criticized Ten Hag’s management in light of the team’s performance, expressing concern that even average teams could defeat United given their current form.
