NetOne’s Digital Schools Connect Programme Wins Government Praise

Vice President Kembo Mohadi has applauded mobile network operator NetOne for its continued efforts in extending digital access to Zimbabwe’s most remote areas, in alignment with the national Vision 2030 strategy aimed at building a digitally driven economy.

Speaking at Shanagiso Secondary School during the official opening of a modern ICT laboratory, the Vice President commended NetOne’s partnership with various government ministries to bridge the digital divide and empower young people through access to technology.

“This facility is more than just a computer lab; it’s a doorway to education, innovation, and future possibilities,” Mohadi said.

He noted that NetOne’s dedication to bringing connectivity to underserved communities, such as Shanagiso, demonstrates its commitment to national development and inclusivity in the digital revolution.

The newly opened ICT lab, fitted with fast internet and up-to-date learning tools, was launched under NetOne’s Digital Schools Connect programme. This initiative aims to enhance digital learning by equipping rural schools with modern technology and infrastructure.

Supporting the government’s goal of transforming Zimbabwe into a knowledge-based economy, the project reflects the ambitions of Vision 2030.

The commissioning event was also attended by the Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, Hon. Tatenda Mavetera, who presented 40 laptops to the school as part of the broader empowerment initiative.

Minister Mavetera praised the collaborative effort between NetOne and the government, describing it as a prime example of effective public-private partnership driving inclusive development.

“This is Vision 2030 in action—where both public and private sectors work hand in hand to deliver real, meaningful change,” she said. “In today’s world, digital skills are essential. They are no longer optional, especially for children in Zimbabwe. I applaud NetOne for recognising this urgency and taking bold action.”

NetOne CEO, Engineer Raphael Mushanawani, expressed appreciation for the recognition and reiterated the company’s commitment to making digital connectivity a right for all Zimbabweans, not just a privilege.

Community members, school staff, and students in Shanagiso welcomed the initiative, expressing gratitude for the positive impact the ICT lab will have on education and access to global information for youth in the area.

The occasion marked another significant step in Zimbabwe’s journey toward a digitally inclusive society, ensuring that citizens from all walks of life are equipped to participate and succeed in the modern digital economy.
