Social media users’ reactions to the controversial nature of football fandom included surprise, appreciation, and condemnation.

Douglas Mwanza noted, “It looks awkward putting on a jacket in a soccer match, but…,” while Emma Nuel proudly acknowledged Charamba’s representation of Zimbabwe, saying, “Kubhora neSuit here, mdara Charamba, munoshoweresa nyika yedu yeZimbabwe.”

Christopher Takunda Mugaga joked, “With the way your team is playing, mufundisi, MHINDURO IRIPO NDI JESU chete enjoy your break, my pastor.”

Arinos empathised with Charamba and Manchester United fans, stating, “So yakarakashwa murimo henyu. Yesterday I felt the pain that Man U fans always feel. These guys are strong.”

Charamba’s attendance at the game and the range of responses it generated demonstrate the intersections between social media discourse, sports, and public personalities.

Social media has the ability to influence public opinion in significant ways, as evidenced by the passionate discussions that can arise from seemingly trivial events.
