Skimbo’s Madirirano dream hangs in balance
By Nigel Pfunde
Preparations for the much hyped inaugural Bodyslam Madirirano UK Tour have reached fever pitch with the fiesta roaring into life on September 23 in Luton.
The curtain comes down with a family show on September 25 in Leicester.
The whole camp is on cloud nine save for one man.
His name is Skimbo, the comedian who replaced Lady Squanda on the star studded line-up.
It appears Skimbo’s dream to be part of the Bodyslam Madirirano UK tour may not come to fruition as his visa has been reportedly been delayed bringing shivers to the ghetto comic.
On Monday the only outstanding artistes Killer T and Hwindi President were granted their visas and Skimbo was left in the cold.
Bodyslam Records boss and tour organiser Simba’ DJ Trouble’ Chakare confirmed that Skimbo’s visa was still being processed and said he was confident that the comic would be part of the tour.
“Well, I can confirm that Killer T and Hwindi President were granted their visas and all the other artistes. Skimbo’s visa is still being processed and we are hoping next week he will be granted and we are confident that he will be part of this historic movement,” said DJ Trouble.
Skimbo could not be reached for comment as his phone went unanswered.
A section of Lady Squanda’s After 8 Records fans were however already celebrating the development.
They went overdrive on social media celebrating the delay of Skimbo’s travel logistics.
“After 8 to the world hapana anodisser pattern raSquanda achigaya achapinda kuchando. (No-one disses Lady Squanda’s style with the hope of going to UK),” posted one Maximum Fya in a dancehall music WhatsApp group.
“Kutotorerwa kwawakaita passport wakatopinda machena, manje zvavharana (Acquiring a passport was your best achievement),”posted another After 8 fan who is simply registered as Fat Cat.
Lady Squanda is however on record for publicly apologising for forcing Skimbo to lick her feet in a video clip that went viral on social media over a month ago.
In that light, there is no nexus linking her to the rude remarks by her self-proclaimed fans.
Meanwhile, UK based selector King Alfred will host the local entourage of the Madirirano Tour which features Shinso Man, Soul Jah Love, Killer T, Hwindi President, Dj Busta, DJ Trouble and Da Ruler.
The UK ‘posse’ will feature War Head, DJ Ru, MC Rego, Jah Hanief, New Generation, Alfred Nenguwo, DigitalOne,Fire Sound, Majesy Real link among others.
The organiser said this was only the beginning of bigger things as this started as a small get together movement in the dusty streets of Highfield in the capital.
