Zanu PF Expels Blessed Geza After Call for Mnangagwa’s Resignation

Roseline Tawengwa

The ruling Zanu PF party has expelled Central Committee member and war veteran Blessed Geza with immediate effect after he publicly called for President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s resignation.

Zanu PF’s Secretary for Legal Affairs, Patrick Chinamasa, confirmed the expulsion on Wednesday, stating that Geza’s actions were a direct violation of the party’s principles and discipline.

“As a revolutionary party, Zanu PF does not tolerate conduct that undermines the leadership and unity of the party,” Chinamasa said in a statement. “Comrade Blessed Geza’s public calls for the resignation of the President are not only reckless but also an affront to the party’s constitution. He has, therefore, been expelled with immediate effect.”

Geza, a long-serving party cadre and war veteran, had recently expressed strong dissatisfaction with Mnangagwa’s leadership, citing economic mismanagement and alleged betrayal of the revolutionary ideals of Zanu PF. His statements, made through various media platforms, sparked controversy within party ranks, with some members calling for swift disciplinary action.

Political analysts suggest that the expulsion highlights ongoing tensions within Zanu PF, particularly amid growing economic and political challenges in Zimbabwe. While the ruling party insists that internal dissent must be handled through formal structures, critics argue that the move reflects an intolerance of differing opinions.

Geza has yet to respond publicly to his expulsion, but sources close to him indicate that he remains steadfast in his criticism of Mnangagwa’s leadership. It remains unclear whether he will challenge the decision or seek political realignment outside Zanu PF.

The expulsion comes at a time when Zanu PF is preparing for internal restructuring ahead of the next elections. Observers say this development could further expose fault lines within the party as it grapples with internal divisions and external political pressures.
