The Republic of Korea donated 400 pieces of Taekwondo equipment to Zimbabwe earlier today at the Korean Embassy Residence in Borrowdale.
The donated equipment includes Taekwondo uniforms, pads, gloves, hogu, and other protective gear for Taekwondo.
Minister of Sports, Arts, and Recreation Kirsty Coventry attended the ceremony together with Korean Ambassador Park Jae Kyung, Zimbabwe Taekwondo President Mr. Benson Zwizwai, and Zimbabwe Team Coach Ndaona Kembo.
Park Jae Kyung commented on Zimbabwean Taekwondo and the hard-working students who are putting much effort into Taekwondo as their sport.

“Zimbabwe and Korea have collaborated in many Taekwondo events, including the Korean Ambassador Cup, and we hope to continue working together.”
“Taekwondo is not all about fighting; it also promotes respect and discipline for students at home or wherever they are,” Jae Kyung said.
Minister Kirsty Coventry said, “Zimbabwe as a nation hopes to host the 2028 Olympics to showcase the young talents in our country. I am very happy to see the young children participating and demonstrating Taekwondo, lifting kicks.”
“Taekwondo must be practiced in our country for self-defense, and it is also good for our society,” Minister Coventry said.

“I am so happy that our Minister of Sports is here with us today. This donation also shows that we have a good relationship with the Koreans, and it gives us the power to teach more children the sport,” Zwizwai said.

“We have been working together with Korea, and we appreciate the donation. This is the first occasion of having a wonderful ceremony for the donation of equipment, and it reflects the seriousness with which the Embassy is taking Taekwondo as a sport,” He said.
