ZRP Arrests Armed Robbery Gangs in Harare
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrests of several suspects linked to multiple armed robberies in and around Harare. The arrests follow investigations into robberies, including one at Dinwoo Investments in Workington, Harare, on 28th October 2024, where US$30,000 in cash was stolen.
Details of Arrests:
On 30th October 2024, CID Homicide detectives traced Spencer Mapfumo (42), who was found driving a Nissan AD Van without registration plates. The vehicle was seized, along with a firearm and US$37.00 in cash. Mapfumo admitted his involvement and named his accomplices, leading to further arrests.
Patrick Chibaba (38), known as “Mupositori,” was arrested after a confrontation with police in Waterfalls, Harare. He was found in possession of US$2,020 in cash, a Tokarev pistol, and a blank pistol.
Tarwirei Madzudzu (50), known as “Mukanya,” was arrested in St Mary’s, Chitungwiza, after a brief attempt to flee. Detectives recovered US$740.00 from his residence.
Paddington Meki (44) was apprehended on 31st October 2024, in the CBD while traveling towards Domboshava. He was driving a red Honda Fit and was about to meet with his accomplices.
Washington Marunze (36) was arrested after being lured into a meeting with the detectives in Harare, where police recovered additional evidence, including a magazine loaded with ammunition and US$805.00.
These suspects are linked to several armed robberies that occurred between July and October 2024, including significant heists at ZAOGA Church, Glenorah (August 2024), and Garfunkel, Prince Charles Airport, Mt Hampden (October 2024).
Second Robbery Gang Arrested:
In a separate case, Bornwell Mukwasi (32), Clive Mudiwa (25), and Nathan Mudiwa (22) were arrested in connection with a robbery at Rhi-Media Holdings in Harare on 29th October 2024, where over US$71,000 worth of computers and accessories were stolen.
– Mukwasi was arrested in the Harare CBD and implicated the Mudiwa brothers. Investigations revealed that Mukwasi had sent part of the stolen goods to Beitbridge via bus, where police later recovered items, including subwoofers, an iMac monitor, and a Dell laptop.
– The Mudiwa brothers were arrested in Budiriro on 31st October 2024. Items recovered included studio equipment and various electronics, valued at US$65,000.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police assured the public that all armed robbery syndicates will be pursued relentlessly, with the law applied impartially.
