This morning, two businessmen, Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu, came before the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) for questioning about a contentious elections tender managed by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).
The investigation focuses on suspicions of corruption in a $40 million procurement for electoral materials.
Chimombe and Mpofu, who had been in Harare since their return from a business trip to China on Thursday, were freed following questioning and told they would be called if more information was required.
Advocate Dzvetero confirmed the businessmen’s appearance. “They [ZACC] said they would call us when they needed us,” Dzvetero remarked.
A video circulating on social media shows Chimombe and Mpofu arriving at the ZACC offices in Harare on Monday morning, generating public curiosity and conjecture about the case.
The businessmen’s attorneys had previously informed ZACC of their clients’ absence from the country and promised them that they would be available upon their return.
In addition to the election tender scam, Chimombe and Mpofu are entangled in another dispute surrounding the Presidential Goat Scheme, which complicates their legal issues.

Despite the serious claims, Chimombe and Mpofu were not imprisoned, so the commission’s investigation continues. ZACC is also investigating the involvement of their partner, Wicknell Chivayo, in the tender scandal.
Zimbabwe remains plagued by significant levels of corruption, with the ZACC investigating a number of high-profile politicians and business people. The commission’s actions are part of a larger push to combat systemic corruption and promote openness throughout the country.
As the inquiry continues, the public and stakeholders anticipate further developments in the case, reflecting broader worries about corruption and governance in Zimbabwe. The conclusion of this high-profile investigation will be viewed as a litmus test for the country’s commitment to combating corruption at all levels.
