As the world observes Universal Children’s Day, the suffering of Palestine’s children weighs heavily on our hearts. The ongoing conflict, which began in 2023, has claimed the lives of over 19,000 students and injured 28,000, leaving countless young minds traumatized and shattered.
The scale of destruction is appalling, with hundreds of schools, kindergartens, and playgrounds damaged or destroyed in Gaza and the West Bank. These institutions, meant to be safe havens for learning and growth, have been reduced to rubble, disrupting the education and upbringing of thousands of children.
Ambassador Tamer Almassri strongly condemns the recent Israeli attacks across Gaza, which have killed at least 19 Palestinians and injured dozens more, violating ceasefire agreements. These attacks demonstrate a blatant disregard for human life, piling misery upon displaced Palestinians as winter approaches.
Since the ceasefire agreement of October 11, 2023, 280 Palestinians have been killed, with 672 injured, bringing the cumulative death toll to a staggering 69,513, mostly children and women. The international community must hold Israel accountable for its actions and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
The devastation is not limited to physical destruction. The psychological trauma inflicted on these children will have long-lasting effects, shaping their future and the future of Palestine.
As we mark Universal Children’s Day, we must come together to protect the rights and dignity of Palestine’s children. We owe it to them to ensure their voices are heard, their suffering is acknowledged, and their future is secured.
The international community must take collective action to:
– Demand an immediate ceasefire
– Hold Israel accountable for its actions
– Provide humanitarian aid to affected families
– Support efforts to rebuild damaged infrastructure
It’s time for the world to stand united for the rights and dignity of Palestine’s children.
