The Embassy of the State of Palestine in Zimbabwe has issued a strong condemnation of the Israeli government’s decision to block humanitarian aid and seal all border crossings into the Gaza Strip.
The move, which prevents access to essential supplies such as food, water, and electricity, has been described as a form of collective punishment that constitutes a crime against humanity.
In a statement, the embassy denounced Israel’s actions as a clear violation of international law, particularly under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. The ongoing blockade, it warned, exacerbates the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and further destabilizes the region.
The embassy stressed that the global community cannot afford to remain silent in the face of these violations and urged immediate intervention to stop what it referred to as “ongoing crimes and genocide” in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Palestinian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Tamer Almassri, called on the United Nations Security Council and the broader international community to take swift and decisive measures to hold Israel accountable. He emphasized that the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza demands urgent attention, stating that failure to act would allow further suffering and loss of life among innocent civilians.
“The world must not stand idly by while Gaza is subjected to relentless atrocities,” the statement read. “Immediate efforts must focus on securing a permanent ceasefire and creating conditions for humanitarian relief and reconstruction.”
The embassy also reiterated the need for Israel to face consequences for what it described as ongoing violations of international law. It urged governments and human rights organizations to increase diplomatic pressure on Israel to end the blockade and allow the flow of aid to civilians in desperate need.
With the humanitarian situation in Gaza reaching critical levels, the Palestinian diplomatic mission in Zimbabwe stressed that global intervention is essential to prevent further tragedies and ensure justice for those affected.
