Zimbabwean businessman and philanthropist Strive Masiyiwa, along with his wife Tsitsi, have made a significant donation to Harare and Parirenyatwa Hospitals. The couple has gifted maternity equipment worth US$240,000 to the two health institutions, aiming to improve healthcare facilities for expectant mothers and newborns.
The donation includes essential medical equipment such as continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machines, monitors, jaundice meters, and phototherapy machines, which will enhance the quality of care provided to patients at the two hospitals.
This generous act is expected to make a tangible difference in the lives of countless women and children, ensuring they receive the best possible medical attention during pregnancy, childbirth, and postnatal care.
Strive Masiyiwa, founder of Econet Wireless and a well-known philanthropist, has a long history of supporting healthcare initiatives in Zimbabwe.
His foundation, the Higherlife Foundation, has been instrumental in providing aid to various healthcare institutions and communities across the country.

Zimbabwe has been experiencing a maternal mortality rate of 362 women out of 10 000 births, and the under five mortality ratio is at 39.8 deaths per 1,000 births according to the 2022 Census.
The donation was met with gratitude from hospital officials and staff, who will acknowledge the critical need for modern medical equipment to provide quality care to patients.
The equipment will be distributed between Harare and Parirenyatwa hospitals, ensuring that both facilities can upgrade their maternity wards and provide better services to expectant mothers and newborns.
