Mashonaland West based music promoter Cossy Rules will tomorrow be the guest speaker at the weekly Jam Session hosted by City Sports Bar in Harare.
Speaking to Showbiz on Sunday the promoter said he was thrilled to be part of the weekly program aimed at affording budding artistes exposure to the cut throat market.
He said he was excited about the opportunity to speak to local musicians that participate in the Jam Session.
“It is a great project they are running and I am excited to be part of the event. My participation will be an endorsement of the project as well as a needs assessment to see how best we can also come in and assist artistes,” said the promoter born Cosmas Daka.
He said promoters should graduate into grooming and promoting artistes first before they start expecting returns.
“Promoters should promote first then money comes second. There is work to be done,” he said.
He hailed the project as a noble initiative that would ensure that artistic efforts to maintain, strengthen and grow local musical sounds are complemented.
The Jam Session is one of the few initiatives aimed at promoting local music and probably the only one funded by a local music promoter and has seen hoards of artistes, particularly sungura musicians getting a chance to perform in front of bigger audiences.
Although the musicians do not get monetary reward immediately, they get to meet promoters and who give them future gigs.
