Police in Bulawayo have apprehended five individuals suspected of being involved in a series of armed robberies targeting local families and businesses.
The suspects Nkosiyazi Nyathi (20), Vusumuzi Ncube (22), Mgcini Sibanda (24), Mlungisi Ndlovu (41), and Nkosiyazi Moyo (27) were arrested after an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement officers.
A sixth suspect, identified as Alex Nyathi (alias Samduduzi), is still at large, and police have launched a manhunt to locate him. During the operation, officers recovered a Norinco pistol, which is believed to have been one of two firearms the group allegedly used during their criminal activities in areas such as Cowdray Park.

The arrests began on December 12, following a tip-off about individuals suspected of possessing an illegal firearm. Initial investigations led to the capture of Nkosiyazi Nyathi and Vusumuzi Ncube in Cowdray Park. Upon questioning, the two admitted to having stolen a Star pistol loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition during a robbery at Nokel Security Company on November 10, 2023.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover the full extent of the group’s operations while intensifying efforts to apprehend the remaining suspect.
