‘Thank you!’ Muyengwa tells critics
Sungura Artiste, Anthony Mpofu Muyengwa, yesterday expressed gratitude to his audience, especially the nay sayers for propelling him to popularity.
Muyengwa said this during an interview with this publication, where he also hinted, a new album is On the cards.
“I just want to say, a big thank you to my fans and listeners and much gratitude goes to those who criticized me for sounding like the legendary Leonard Karikoga Zhakata,” Muyengwa said.
“This has attracted more fans to join our camp and our songs have been performing well on radio platforms, particularly on Radio Zimbabwe,” he added.
One of Muyengwa’s songs, “Ndodira paraquat” released on November the seventh 2021 off a singles collection has been making waves on Radio Zimbabwe.
Just twelve days after release “Ndodira paraquat” found itself in19th spot on the Radio Zimbabwe Top 20 show and stayed on the chat for a full year.
Another show on the same station which recognize the hottest ‘Sungura’ songs in the country, “Sungura Top 10” saw Muyengwa in the top three for seven consecutive weeks, emerging top twice.
“I never saw myself standing among giants like Baba Alick Macheso and Mark Ngwazi, let alone my song competing with these great names.
“It is quite an honor and this has been made possible by my fans and critiques,” said a jovial Muyengwa.
“Another one of my song ‘Buda pachena’ made it to number 40 on the 2022 Radio Zimbabwe Top 50,” he said.
Muyengwa told this publication fans should keep ears on the ground as new craft is on its way, in the form of an album and videos foe ‘Sofie,’ ‘Ndodira Paraquat’ and a single which is a ‘Thank you’ to critics.
