A harrowing incident unfolded last week at a popular hiking spot in Bulawayo, as a motorist fell victim to a daring theft, losing a substantial sum of nearly US$18k in daily sales.
The robbery, perpetrated by three cunning thieves, sent shockwaves through the community.
According to investigations, the unfortunate event occurred when the motorist, whose identity remains undisclosed, made a stop at the corner of 1st Avenue and Samuel Parirenyatwa Street on March 29, 2024.
Little did they know that this seemingly routine pause would turn into a nightmare.

As the motorist was preparing to continue their journey, three individuals, who had been lurking in the vicinity posing as hitchhikers, pounced on the scene.
In a swift and calculated move, they confronted the motorist and forcibly seized a satchel containing the day’s earnings.
The stolen amount, amounting to nearly US$18k, represented a significant loss for the victim, striking a blow to their livelihood and financial security.
The audacity of the thieves, executing their crime in broad daylight, left witnesses stunned and the community reeling in disbelief.
Confirming the distressing incident, National Police Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi assured the public that authorities are diligently pursuing the case.
“Police in Bulawayo are investigating a case of theft which occurred at the corner of 1st Avenue and Samuel Parirenyatwa Street, Bulawayo on March 29, 2024.“Three unidentified male suspects, who were touting, confronted the victim at a hiking spot and snatched a pink satchel containing US$17 775 being cash from daily sales and ran away. Anyone with information to report at any nearest Police Station,” he said.
