Sakhile Dube wins the Miss Universe Zimbabwe 2024 title
Last night at the Hippodrome in Harare, the crowd’s favorite contestant, 27-year-old Public Relations and Marketing Manager Sakhile Dube, who advocates for the coexistence between humans and wildlife to protect the ecosystem, food security, agriculture, and ecotourism, was crowned Miss Universe Zimbabwe 2024, taking over from the 2023 title holder, Brooke Bruk-Jackson.
Sakhile holds other pageantry crowns: Miss Tourism Zimbabwe 2020-2021 and Miss Earth Zimbabwe 2022, where at the world contest she was one of the top 8 at Miss Earth 2022, and she is also Miss Supranational Zimbabwe 2023.
She battled for the crown with 17 other models and made it to the top three with Lisa Sibanda and Ruvimbo Njomboro. Lisa was named the first princess, while Ruvimbo earned the title of second princess.
Nevertheless, Sakhile’s supporters felt uneasy because Lisa and Ruvimbo’s answers during the last Q&A were more forceful and concise than Sakhile’s. The other audience member believes she should rehearse that portion more in order to be ready for the Miss Universe World Pageant.
Several prominent fashion designers dressed the contestants. The eighteen women donned red swimsuits from VD by Varaidzo and white mini dresses by Nandi Larethi and pink bottom heels by Pokello for their debut appearance. Moreover, well-known designers like Tapfuma Coco Munengwa and Zargue’sia by Ishamel Tsakatsa were some of those that created their evening gowns.
Former First Lady Grace Mugabe made an unexpected appearance on the judge panel and was enthralled to hear the song “Bipolar” by Saintfloew that mentions her as Mai Bona. She looked stunning in her navy blue gown.
Prior to Tamy Moyo and her group performing with vigor and Nyasha David serenading the models during the evening wear segment, the Elysium dance group came in during the model intro with their energetic afro-contemporary choreography.
