During the court proceedings, when questioned about how he gained entry, Shepherd Ncube stated, “I did not use any weapon to open the door; the door was not closed.”

The incident took place on 28 January 2023, around 3 am, at flats in the central business district. Shepherd unlawfully entered Siyabonga Ncube’s room and stole a Samsung cellphone, US$151, eight kilograms of meat, and alcohol before hastily fleeing the scene.

Siyabonga, noticing the theft as Shepherd was leaving, promptly informed a friend, and together they pursued the hungry thief.

The chase led them along George Silundika Street, where they managed to apprehend Shepherd Ncube and handed him over to the police.
