Hungry Thief Admits to Breaking into House, Stealing Meat, Alcohol

A 37-year-old man from Bulawayo, Shepherd Ncube, has found himself in legal trouble after breaking into a flat and making off with eight kilograms of meat, alcohol, a cellphone, and money.

The accused appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Maxwell Ncube, where he pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and theft, and he has been remanded to 30 January for sentencing.

During the court proceedings, when questioned about how he gained entry, Shepherd Ncube stated, “I did not use any weapon to open the door; the door was not closed.”

The incident took place on 28 January 2023, around 3 am, at flats in the central business district. Shepherd unlawfully entered Siyabonga Ncube’s room and stole a Samsung cellphone, US$151, eight kilograms of meat, and alcohol before hastily fleeing the scene.

Siyabonga, noticing the theft as Shepherd was leaving, promptly informed a friend, and together they pursued the hungry thief.

The chase led them along George Silundika Street, where they managed to apprehend Shepherd Ncube and handed him over to the police.
