US President Donald Trump is considering escalating sanctions on Russia to bring an end to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, according to Keith Kellogg, US Special Envoy for Ukraine.
Kellogg mentioned that increased sanctions, particularly targeting Russia’s oil production and exports, are a potential next step.
Trump recently met with his team of advisers and cabinet members to discuss ways to utilize all national resources to end the war. Kellogg emphasized that resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict requires a unified effort from the entire US administration.
While acknowledging that both Ukraine and Russia will need to make compromises, Kellogg stressed that achieving a solution may not please everyone, but it is necessary to strike a balance. After a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in late 2024, Trump expressed optimism about reaching a peace agreement that would be beneficial for both parties.

Kiev has received 27.2% of the funds allocated by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) over the past three years, according to an analysis of public data on US foreign aid.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk, the tech billionaire who recently labeled USAID a “criminal organization,” is leading the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The department’s primary goal has been to dismantle the US agency, which has provided economic assistance to countries around the world, including Ukraine.
However, as Ukraine has become the top recipient of USAID’s global financial assistance in the past three years since the full escalation of the military conflict in 2022, the agency’s closure could pause any future economic aid to Kiev.
